Install Dial-Up Networking for Windows
95
- Click on the Start button, point
to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double click the Add/Remove Programs.
- Click the Windows Setup tab, click
Communications, and then click Details.
- Click the Dial-Up Networking check
box, and then click OK (do not uncheck anything or it will be
uninstalled). Click OK again, and follow the instructions on your
screen (the setup will require your Win95 cd unless the *.cab
files are on your hard disk).
Install TCP/IP and Set the DNS IP
Address
- Click on the Start button, point
to Settings, click Control Panel, double-click the Network icon,
and click the Add button.
- In the Select Network Component
Type box, double-click Protocol.
- In the Select Network Protocol
dialog box, in the Manufacturers list, click Microsoft and then
in the Network Protocols list, click Microsoft TCP/IP. Click OK.
- Double-click the TCP/IP entry.
- In the TCP/IP Properties dialog
box, click the DNS Configuration tab.
- Click Enable DNS, and then in the
Host and Domain boxes, type your host name (yourname, nickname,
or computername without spaces) and domain name (cahe.wsu.edu),
respectively. These names identify you on the Internet.
- In the DNS Server Search Order
box, type 134.121.2.54 then click Add for the1st DNS and then
type 134.121.64.1 then click Add for the 2nd DNS.
- Click OK and restart computer.
Setup Dial-Up Networking
- Double click the My Computer icon
on your desktop, double click the Dial-Up Networking icon, and
double click the Make New Connection icon.
- The Make New Connection window
will appear. Replace the My Connection name with Cru_Ras and click
Next. (it is assumed that your modem has been configured, if not,
the dial-up networking setup wizard for modem configuration will
begin.)
- Type in the area code and phone
number and click Next and Finish.
- The Dial-Up Networking folder will
now have a Cru_Ras icon. Right click on this icon and choose Properties
from the menu that appears.
- Click the Server Types tab. The
Type of Dialup is Server should be PPP Windows 95, Windows NT
3.5, Internet.
- Uncheck the NetBeui and IPS/SPX
Compatible boxes in the Allowed network protocols section.
- Click on the TCP/IP Settings
box
- Click on the circle preceding Specify
name server addresses and enter the following:

- Click OK and
Click OK.
Connect using Dial-Up Networking
- Double click the Cru_Ras icon in
the Dial-Up Networking folder.
- Type in your Ras Username and Password
and click Connect. If you do not have a usermane or password,
please contact a CRU support technician to setup an account.
- Once a connection is established,
you are ready to open your email program, browser, or any other
internet applications.
- To disconnect, double click on
the dual monitor icon in the lower/right area of the taskbar and
click on Disconnect.
