Windows 98 Dial Up Networking Setup and use for CRU RAS

 
                         
 

Setup Dial-Up Networking

  1. Double click the My Computer icon on your desktop, double click the Dial-Up Networking icon.
  2. If this is the first time you've accessed the Dial-up Networking folder, a wizard will start. If not, double click on the Make New Connection icon within Dial-up Networking folder.
  3. The Make New Connection window will appear. Replace the "My Connection" name with Cru_Ras and click the Next button. (It is assumed that your modem has been configured, if not, the dial-up networking setup wizard for modem configuration will begin.)
  4. Leave Country field at United States of America, type in the area code and phone number for Cru_Ras, enter the number that you have to use to access an outside line (if applicable), and select either tone or pulse (if not known, leave at default).
  5. The Cru_Ras icon will be added to the Dial-Up Networking folder. Right click on this icon and choose Properties from the menu that appears.
  6. Click the Server Types tab. The Type of Dialup is Server should be Internet, Windows NT Server, Windows 98.
  7. Uncheck the NetBeui and IPS/SPX Compatible boxes in the "Allowed network protocols" section of this tab.
  8. Click on the TCP/IP Settings button.
  9. Click on the circle preceding "Server assigned IP addresses".
  10. Click on the circle preceding "Specify name server addresses" and enter the following information:
    1. Primary DNS 134.121.2.54
    2. Secondary DNS 134.121.64.1
    3. Primary WINS 134.121.6.4
    4. Secondary WINS 134.121.6.5
  11. Click OK and Click OK.

Connect using Dial-Up Networking

  1. Double click the Cru_Ras icon in the Dial-Up Networking folder.
  2. Type in your Ras Username and Password and click Connect. If you do not have a username and password, please contact a CRU support technician to setup an account.
  3. Once a connection is established, you are ready to open your email program, internet browser, or any other internet application.
  4. To disconnect, double click on the dual monitor icon in the lower, right area of the taskbar and then click on the Disconnect button.
